A new study conducted by the Saudi-based cultural institute, Ithra, reveals that almost half of people are worried about their well-being. People usually think that they are really affected by the smartphone and with the internet also.
They say that around 42 per cent of respondents don’t spend quality time with their loved ones because they spend a lot of time on social media.
In addition to it, around 37 of the respondent agree on it that their lives and their work have been affected by using the smartphone and the internet as well as their social lives.
According to the survey, 44 per cent of parents allow their children to use smartphones, gadgets, and the internet without supervision and this can have an impact on their parenting skills. According to the available data, the number of people who worry about their well-being being affected by technology is 74% from Sub-Saharan Africa and 56% from South Asia while 27% are from Europe and Central Asia. Furthermore, 50% of Gen Z are experiencing issues like tiredness, poor lack of sleep, and headaches as a result of digital consumption.
People spend more time than expected on the internet, and 41% of people experience withdrawal symptoms when they don’t have access to their gadgets. When we spend a lot of time online, we become addicted to technology and we can’t seem to function without it. We start saying or doing things that are self-destructive because technology allows us to get away with it. For example, if you’re on social media for 10 hours a day, you’ll get withdrawal symptoms when you’re not online.
Not Bad At All
It’s not that negative, every respondent has their own opinion and suggestion related to anything but some studies shows that there are only positive results. About 88% of the respondent shows that the technology has a global-wide impact of technology on their life. It would be difficult for anyone to live without technology today. Many people are not aware of how much technology impacts their lives, but it is here to stay. When people are travelling, they are just as likely to take their phones with them as they are with their passports! People are not only using technology to communicate, but also to keep track of their health, keep up with work schedules, and manage finances.
Finally, 64% of respondents believe that technology has helped them big time especially during this time of the pandemic. Technology has helped you in many ways. When it comes to communication with friends, family, and even with your customers, technology has made communication with them easier.
Therefore, 91% are spending more time on the internet. The amount of time people spend on the internet is up from 80% to 91%. A lot of this might be due to the introduction of smartphones, which have been built with built-in internet connectivity. This means that people can now check their phones and keep up with social media at the same time as they do their daily tasks.
